PV Design Engineer (Brooklyn, NY)

Start Date: Immediate

Status: Full-Time

Salary: 70K to 90K per year

We are looking for a PV Design Engineer to join our team. This person will generate work on engineering designs for a variety of solar projects that are central to Ecogy's business. In addition to engineering design, they’ll handle day-to-day communications with vendors and construction team members to make sure projects are moving forward. This role requires attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Our ideal candidate is proficient in AutoCAD and has a background or experience with electrical engineering focused on the design of commercial PV systems.

The PV Design Engineer will report to the Director of Engineering and collaborate closely with the Senior CAD Technician and other members of the team. This is a full-time position starting as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:
  • Draft system designs, including array layouts, site plans, and equipment details
  • Draft electrical single and three line diagrams
  • Calculate/determine electrical parameters such as conductor and conduit sizing, OCPD sizing, voltage drop, appropriate equipment sizing/selection
  • Determine appropriate string sizing for inverters based on manufacturer's requirements
  • Find and apply relevant permitting and code requirements to solar designs
  • Collaborate with Director of Engineering to navigate designs through utility approval and permitting
  • Import CAD files from Drone Deploy or similar platform for integration in Plan Sets
  • Ensure system designs are code compliant
  • Analyze solar system production using Helioscope or similar platforms
Qualifications:
  • Experience using CAD Software, preferably AutoCAD
  • Basic understanding of photovoltaic systems and electrical components
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience in electrical system design, PV system design, or a related field
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field through an ABET accredited program is preferred
  • Passionate and open-minded about the solar industry
  • Ability to work meticulously in both independent and collaborative settings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of traditional construction techniques a plus
  • Design experience with an MEP firm is a plus
  • NABCEP Certification is a plus
